Ipod Classic With Its New Look And Features
By Roberto
iPhone, the internet enabled phone, combines the features of mobile phone, ipod and wireless internet device in a single package. But the most innovative feature of the device is multi-touch screen. Besides the touch based interface of the screen the iphone allows to view it in landscape and portrait mode as well. Is not it that easy to handle the phone with just the touch of two fingers? Another striking feature of the iphone is its multimedia massaging system. Basically, it is a pretty and easy-to-use device. Though there have been some other manufacturers of iphones, Apple was the first one to get much attention for its product.

When you take into account the configuration, the small, thin device that fits in the palm comfortably boasts a brilliant display. It has got a 3.5 inches screen and 480*320 pixel resolutions that gives fluid movements, sharp graphic and brilliant colors. In an iphone by Apple the menu interface is innate, attractive and easy to use. The features are easy to find some are present at the bottom of the screen and some other features are displayed above. As essential features are not buried under the menu it makes the system user friendly. You can browse them quickly as the fluid animation allows you go through different functions. Worried about how to operate? Well, the touch screen can serve the purpose of your keyboard, your dialpad, your music and video player and safari browser.

With all its flaws iphone is a revolutionary invention. Though it lacks some of the features that most of the basic phones have, it does things that barely any phone can do. However,

the gorgeous hand-held computer with its touch sensitive glass screen is no more a wonder to anyone. The storage capacity of the phone depends on the type of model you choose. In any model 700 megabyte is occupied by the software of the phone. Besides, there is room for 825 or 1825 songs depending on the model. Then again, the price for the iphone varies with the model.

Price apart, you can get a cellphone, e-mail terminal, web browser, video ipod, camera, palm-type organizer. The software is the most attractive part of the iphone. You cant get lost in the puzzled menu, rather the button below the screen will take you to the home page if you ever. The eye-candy features of the iphones from Apple are a fun to use. You can check your waiting massages with just a press of a button and they will list as the emails. Now you are saved from the boring robot giving you information about your messages. One battery charge allow you 8 hours of call, 24 hours of audio or 7 hours of video.

Iphone, today, are bluetooth, USB and WiFi enabled. The device with its sleek design, stunning display, multi-touch user interface and safari browser makes an wonderful experience. All these features overshadow its missing features like slow data network and quality of call. In the days to come, there will be remarkable development in the technology of iphone that will overcome its existing shortcomings.

So, be a proud owner of a new and fancy iphone. It is an useful and productive tool. If you have got an iphone there is no specific reason why you should take an ipod or a mobile device.

What Are Today's Best Smartphones?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/H/F/-/-/iphone_vs_droids.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="center" /></p> <p>I've spent a lot of time this summer testing out the latest and greatest smartphones. First, I was wowed by the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/cellphonereviews/fr/sprint-htc-evo-4g-review.htm">HTC EVO 4G</a>'s big screen and speedy 4G connection. Then I was impressed with the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/fr/apple-iphone-4-review.htm">iPhone 4</a>'s crystal-clear screen and slick design. I was won over by the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/cellphonereviews/fr/Htc-Droid-Incredible-Review-An-Almost-Incredible-Android-Phone.htm">Droid Incredible</a>'s speed and simplicity. And I was awed by, well, almost everything about <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/motorolacellphonereviews/fr/Motorola-Droid-X-Review.htm">the Droid X</a>.</p> <p>Any of these phones could top my list of today's best smartphones, but only one earns that honor. Find out which new smartphone it is by checking out this newly updated list of <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/tp/best_smartphones.htm">the best smartphones available today</a>.</p> <p><em>Photos © Apple and HTC</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/29/what-are-todays-best-smartphones.htm">What Are Today's Best Smartphones?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, July 29th, 2010 at 19:57:34.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/29/what-are-todays-best-smartphones.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/29/what-are-todays-best-smartphones.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/29/what-are-todays-best-smartphones.htm&#038;zItl=What Are Today's Best Smartphones?">Email this</a></p>
BlackBerry to Update OS, Unveil New Phones?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/X/F/-/-/blackberry_OS_6.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Rumors are swirling that BlackBerry maker Research In Motion will unveil a new smartphone and an updated version of the BlackBerry OS next week, as the company has issued invitations to a private event next week. While RIM's invitation doesn't say very much, that hasn't stopped the speculation from building. </p> <p>Much of that speculation surrounds the next version of the BlackBerry OS, version 6.0. RIM has offered <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://blogs.blackberry.com/2010/07/blackberry-6-home-screen/">sneak peeks of the software</a>, which features a new look and a new Webkit-based browser. BlackBerry OS 6 will offer new graphics, crisper icons, and a new social networking feed. </p> <p>Other rumors suggest that RIM will announce a new phone -- likely the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/05/blackberry-bold-9800-gets-some-glamour-shots-looks-like-the-sli/">BlackBerry Bold 9800</a> -- running that updated BlackBerry OS. The Bold 9800 is said to feature a touch screen and a slide-up QWERTY keyboard, a design that would make it similar to <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/palm_pre.htm">the Palm Pre</a>. </p> <p>RIM's invitation features both the BlackBerry and AT&#038;T logos, so it seems likely that the companies are announcing new hardware, not just an updated OS. The event takes place on Tuesday, August 3. Stay tuned for all the details. </p> <p><em>Photo © RIM</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/28/blackberry-to-update-os-unveil-new-phones.htm">BlackBerry to Update OS, Unveil New Phones?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Wednesday, July 28th, 2010 at 11:38:58.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/28/blackberry-to-update-os-unveil-new-phones.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/28/blackberry-to-update-os-unveil-new-phones.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/28/blackberry-to-update-os-unveil-new-phones.htm&#038;zItl=BlackBerry to Update OS, Unveil New Phones?">Email this</a></p>
Droid X Sold Out at Verizon Stores
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/I/F/-/-/droid_x.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Hoping to get your hands on the slick new <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/motorolacellphonereviews/fr/Motorola-Droid-X-Review.htm">Droid X smartphone</a>? Prepare to wait: the device is currently sold out through August 4, according to Verizon's site. And heading to a retail store isn't likely to land you a Droid X, either, as an analyst reports that the phone is sold out there, too. </p> <p>In a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2010/07/26/motorola-droid-x-still-sold-out-at-retail-stores-analyst-says/">research note on Monday</a>, Gleacher &#038; Co.'s Mark McKechnie said that he checked supplies of the Droid X over the weekend and late last week, and found "no supply [of the Droid X] at retail as all production is still going to fill 'pre-order' backlog." </p> <p>The Droid X <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/24/droid-x-motorola-and-verizon-make-it-official.htm">launched on July 15</a>, and has proven popular, with its 4.3-inch screen and speedy performance. Sales of the Droid X may also have been buoyed by recent problems with <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/fr/apple-iphone-4-review.htm">Apple's new iPhone 4</a>; that device has been plagued by reports of <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/14/apples-iphone-4-woes-worsen.htm">antenna problems and dropped calls</a> since its launch in late June. </p> <p><em>Photo © Verizon Wireless</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/27/droid-x-sold-out-at-verizon-stores.htm">Droid X Sold Out at Verizon Stores</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Tuesday, July 27th, 2010 at 09:24:15.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/27/droid-x-sold-out-at-verizon-stores.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/27/droid-x-sold-out-at-verizon-stores.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/27/droid-x-sold-out-at-verizon-stores.htm&#038;zItl=Droid X Sold Out at Verizon Stores">Email this</a></p>

iPhone Likely Coming to T-Mobile?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Remember those rumors about the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/10/will-t-mobile-offer-the-iphone.htm">iPhone coming to T-Mobile</a>? They're back. A <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.cultofmac.com/iphone-is-coming-to-t-mobile-usa-in-q3-exclusive/39870">new report from Cult of Mac</a> says that there is an 80 percent chance that T-Mobile will offer <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/fr/apple-iphone-4-review.htm">the iPhone</a> this fall.</p> <p>Cult of Mac says that talks between Apple and T-Mobile are "at a very advanced stage," according to a "highly placed source at the wireless company." The blog says that its sources works at T-Mobile, but asked not to be quoted directly and to remain anonymous because he was not authorized to talk to the press.</p> <p>The first round of rumors regarding <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/10/will-t-mobile-offer-the-iphone.htm">T-Mobile offering the iPhone</a> surfaced in early June, when an investment analyst said in a note to investors that Apple's iPhone would be available from a carrier other than AT&#038;T as soon as this fall. That analyst, Shaw Wu of Kaufman Bros., said that T-Mobile would be the likely choice based on conversations with Apple's suppliers.</p> <p>Since the first version of the iPhone launched in 2007, rumors have swirled about when a carrier other than AT&#038;T would offer it. Verizon Wireless has been the carrier <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/03/30/iphone-coming-to-verizon-wireless.htm">most often mentioned</a> as a likely destination for Apple's smartphone, but AT&#038;T remains, for now, at least, the exclusive carrier of the device.</p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/22/iphone-likely-coming-to-t-mobile.htm">iPhone Likely Coming to T-Mobile?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, July 22nd, 2010 at 11:40:00.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/22/iphone-likely-coming-to-t-mobile.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/22/iphone-likely-coming-to-t-mobile.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/22/iphone-likely-coming-to-t-mobile.htm&#038;zItl=iPhone Likely Coming to T-Mobile?">Email this</a></p>
Despite Antennagate, Apple Reports Record Profits
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Antenna problems? What <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/14/apples-iphone-4-woes-worsen.htm">antenna problems</a>? If you were to judge by Apple's recent financial reports alone, you would never know there's been a huge uproar over faulty antennas on the new <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/fr/apple-iphone-4-review.htm">iPhone 4</a>.</p> <p>Apple on Tuesday reported record revenue for the third quarter of its 2010 fiscal year, and the numbers show a sharp increase over the same period last year. Apple reported $15.7 billion in revenue, up from $9.7 billion in the third quarter of 2009. Apple's profits were $3.3 billion, up from $1.8 billion last year.</p> <p>Apple says the increase was due in large part to sales of the iPhone and <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/latestnews/a/appleipadtabletvoice.htm">iPad</a>. But Apple's third quarter ended on June 26 - just days after the iPhone 4 hit the market, so it's likely that molst of the revenue was from sales of <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/iphone_3G_S_review.htm">older iPhone models</a>, and not those of the troubled new device.</p> <p>While Apple has called the iPhone 4 launch its most successful product launch ever, the company has been dealing with complaints that the phone's cellular signal loses strength when users hold it in the lower left corner. Apple held a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://ipod.about.com/b/2010/07/16/apple-announces-free-cases-case-refunds-for-iphone-4.htm">press conference last week</a> in which the company downplayed the problems, but did offer free bumper cases to anyone who has purchased the iPhone 4.</p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/20/despite-antennagate-apple-reports-record-profits.htm">Despite Antennagate, Apple Reports Record Profits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 at 19:52:22.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/20/despite-antennagate-apple-reports-record-profits.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/20/despite-antennagate-apple-reports-record-profits.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/20/despite-antennagate-apple-reports-record-profits.htm&#038;zItl=Despite Antennagate, Apple Reports Record Profits">Email this</a></p>
Google Says Farewell to the Nexus One
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/Q/6/-/-/googlenexusone.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Google <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://googlenexusoneboard.blogspot.com/2010/07/update-nexus-one-changes-in.html">announced today in a blog post</a> that it has "received [its] last shipment of Nexus One phones," and noted that once it sells through these devices, "the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/google-nexus-one-review.htm">Nexus One</a> will no longer be available online from Google." What Google's blog post doesn't say is what this means for the future of the Nexus One, and the future of Google-branded phones in particular. </p> <p>Google <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/01/05/google-unveils-the-nexus-one-superphone.htm">launched the Nexus One</a> with much fanfare earlier this year, calling it a "superphone" that would be the first in "a series of devices" that Google planned to bring to market. But the Nexus One didn't quite live up to the hype; while the phone earned respectable reviews, it failed to <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/01/13/googles-nexus-one-not-selling-well.htm">sell as well as had been expected</a>. Sprint even canceled its previously-announced plans to offer the device, and Google decided to close the Web store it had launched to sell the Nexus One. </p> <p>Now, it seems the Nexus One has come to the end of its road. Google says that customer support will still be offered for Nexus One owners, and notes that the phone will continue to be sold by partners in other countries. What Google doesn't say is whether it will develop a follow-up device to the Nexus One, and whether that line of Google devices will ever materialize.</p> <p><em>Photo © Google</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/16/google-says-farewell-to-the-nexus-one.htm">Google Says Farewell to the Nexus One</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Friday, July 16th, 2010 at 21:49:05.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/16/google-says-farewell-to-the-nexus-one.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/16/google-says-farewell-to-the-nexus-one.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/16/google-says-farewell-to-the-nexus-one.htm&#038;zItl=Google Says Farewell to the Nexus One">Email this</a></p>

Earlier this week, Consumer Reports issued a statement saying that it could not recommend the iPhone 4 because of the phone's reception problems, and now calls for a recall of the device are growing louder. </p> <p>The iPhone 4 was launched late last month to great fanfare; <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-orders-all-sold-out.htm">pre-orders sold out</a> ahead of its launch and long lines of eager shoppers snapped up the new phone as soon as it became available. But many of those buyers soon encountered what became known as the "grip of death" -- the fact that the iPhone 4's signal degraded greatly when they placed their hand on the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/28/apple-iphone-4-debuts-antenna-problems-persist.htm">lower left-hand corner of the phone</a>. </p> <p>Reports of this problem have been widespread, but I have not been able to replicate it in my usage of the iPhone 4 so far. Still, many technology bloggers and iPhone reviewers <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://technologizer.com/2010/07/13/iphone-4-grip-of-death/">have experienced it</a>, as have scores of users. </p> <p>Apple initially told people to avoid holding the iPhone in that spot, and claimed the problem was actually due to a software flaw that caused the phone to display a higher signal strength than the phone was actually experiencing. But few people seem to believe Apple's claims, and now Consumer Reports has weighed in. The respected consumer magazine issued a statement saying <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://blogs.consumerreports.org/electronics/2010/07/apple-iphone-4-antenna-issue-iphone4-problems-dropped-calls-lab-test-confirmed-problem-issues-signal-strength-att-network-gsm.html">it can't recommend the iPhone 4</a> because of the signal problem. (Consumer Reports did, however, give the iPhone 4 its top ranking among smartphones.) </p> <p>Now, <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20100713-710381.html">calls for a recall of the iPhone 4</a> are growing louder, and some PR experts are going so far as to say that a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.cultofmac.com/pr-experts-iphone-4-hardware-recall-is-inevitable/50565">recall is inevitable</a>. I'm not convinced that Apple will actually recall the phone -- the company has yet to even truly acknowledge the problem. But the furor over the iPhone 4's reception problems doesn't seem to be going away, so it will be interesting to see how Apple weathers the storm. </p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/14/apples-iphone-4-woes-worsen.htm">Apple's iPhone 4 Woes Worsen</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Wednesday, July 14th, 2010 at 09:02:31.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/14/apples-iphone-4-woes-worsen.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/14/apples-iphone-4-woes-worsen.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/14/apples-iphone-4-woes-worsen.htm&#038;zItl=Apple's iPhone 4 Woes Worsen">Email this</a></p>
Today's Best Texting Phones
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/L/F/-/-/samsung_gravity_3.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>If you use your cell phones more for sending messages than for making phone calls, you're not alone. Text messaging is one of the most common uses for today's cell phones. But not all phones handle texting the same way -- and not all are designed for heavy texting. </p> <p>What should you look for in a texting phone? For starters, you'll want a full keyboard; trust me, your thumbs will thank you. And you don't necessarily need all the features of a full-fledged smartphone -- and you don't need to pay the high price that a full-featured smartphone commands. </p> <p>For more information, read my list of <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/cellphonereviews/tp/Best-Text-Messaging-Phones.htm">Today's Best Text Messaging Phones</a>. </p> <p><em>Photo © T-Mobile</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/11/todays-best-texting-phones.htm">Today's Best Texting Phones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Sunday, July 11th, 2010 at 21:39:44.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/11/todays-best-texting-phones.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/11/todays-best-texting-phones.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/11/todays-best-texting-phones.htm&#038;zItl=Today's Best Texting Phones">Email this</a></p>
Droid X Impresses Early Reviewers
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/I/F/-/-/droid_x.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>The highly-anticipated <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/motorolacellphonereviews/a/Droid-X-Motorola-Verizon-Android-Phone.htm">Motorola Droid X</a> won't arrive in Verizon Wireless stores until next week, but hype is growing for the phone's release. Reviewers, so far, seem to adore this new device. Will shoppers be convinced to line up to get their hands on the Droid X, just as <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/28/apple-iphone-4-debuts-antenna-problems-persist.htm">they waited</a> for the new <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/fr/apple-iphone-4-review.htm">iPhone 4</a> last month? </p> <p>Boston.com's Hiawatha Bray tackles this question in <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.boston.com/business/technology/articles/2010/07/08/new_droid_worth_lining_up_for/?p1=Well_MostPop_Emailed4">his review of the Droid X</a>, under the headline "A smartphone worth lining up for." Bray notes that "most people don't get that excited over a new cellphone unless Apple chieftain Steve Jobs tells them to." He praises many features found on the Droid X, including its "luxuriously lean" design and quality video camera, but laments the lack of a front-facing camera for video conferencing. </p> <p>David Pogue of the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/01/technology/personaltech/01pogue.html">New York Times says</a>, "the Droid X is a speed rocket, much like its recent rivals. It's impossible to overstate how satisfying it is to use a snappy, responsive gadget." He points out the complex nature of the Android OS, though, noting that this phone -- like any Android gadget -- may confuse those who aren't technically proficient. </p> <p>I'm currently in the middle of reviewing the Droid X myself, so I can't weigh in on this phone just yet. But stay tuned for a full review in the next few days. </p> <p><em>Photo © Verizon Wireless</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/08/droid-x-impresses-early-reviewers.htm">Droid X Impresses Early Reviewers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, July 8th, 2010 at 13:54:28.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/08/droid-x-impresses-early-reviewers.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/08/droid-x-impresses-early-reviewers.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/08/droid-x-impresses-early-reviewers.htm&#038;zItl=Droid X Impresses Early Reviewers">Email this</a></p>

<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/k/-/-/-/twitter.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="left" /></p> <p>Research In Motion today announced that the Twitter app for BlackBerry is coming out of beta. Twitter for BlackBerry v. 1.0 will be available in <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/softwarereviews/fr/blackberry_appworld.htm">BlackBerry App World</a> as of Wednesday evening. </p> <p>A beta version of the app was launched in April, and updated again in May. RIM notes that the new version of Twitter for BlackBerry was "clearly shaped" by the BlackBerry users who participated in the beta program. </p> <p>New features in version 1.0 include support for additional languages (including Japanese, Russian, and Korean), as well as the ability to access any user's profile from anywhere in the app. Features already available in the beta include: push notification for direct messages, timeline support, the ability to tweet photos and links, and the ability to view trending topics, among others. </p> <p><em>Image © Twitter</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/07/twitter-for-blackberry-app-gets-official.htm">Twitter for BlackBerry App Gets Official</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Wednesday, July 7th, 2010 at 11:48:10.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/07/twitter-for-blackberry-app-gets-official.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/07/twitter-for-blackberry-app-gets-official.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/07/twitter-for-blackberry-app-gets-official.htm&#038;zItl=Twitter for BlackBerry App Gets Official">Email this</a></p>
Microsoft Kills the Kin Line of Phones
<p><img src="http://z.about.com/d/smartphones/1/0/2/7/-/-/kin_phones.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="center" /></p> <p>Just a few days after drastically cutting the prices of <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/04/12/microsoft-unveils-kin-phones.htm">its Kin phones</a>, Microsoft has gone ahead and killed the whole product line altogether. The Kin phones, which were aimed at heavy users of social networks, <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/05/05/microsoft-kin-reviews-the-critics-speak.htm">failed to impress</a> both reviewers and consumers. </p> <p>In a statement issued this week, Microsoft confirmed that it will not make any new Kin phones: "We have made the decision to focus exclusively on Windows Phone 7 and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. "</p> <p>Microsoft released two models of the Kin in early May, the Kin One and Kin Two. Both featured touchscreens and slide-out keyboards. The Kin Two (shown on the left in the photo above) was the higher-end handset, featuring an 8-megapixel camera and a camcorder that can capture video at 720p resolution. </p> <p>The marquee feature of both phones, though, was the way they integrate your favorite social networks. They feature a home screen that allows you to update your Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace status, and view status updates from your friends and contacts. </p> <p>That social networking bent, however, could not make up for the Kin's biggest flaw: these were expensive devices that lacked a true mobile operating system that could allow them to run apps like a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/smartphonebasics/a/what_is_smart.htm">full-fledged smartphone</a>. </p> <p>Microsoft says that Verizon will continue to sell the Kin phones until existing inventory is gone.</p> <p><em>Photo © Microsoft</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/01/microsoft-kills-the-kin-line-of-phones.htm">Microsoft Kills the Kin Line of Phones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, July 1st, 2010 at 14:04:28.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/01/microsoft-kills-the-kin-line-of-phones.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/01/microsoft-kills-the-kin-line-of-phones.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/07/01/microsoft-kills-the-kin-line-of-phones.htm&#038;zItl=Microsoft Kills the Kin Line of Phones">Email this</a></p>
iPhone 4 Review: Slick Design, So-So Call Quality
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>The iPhone 4 is, without a doubt, one of the best smartphones on the market today. It's speedy, svelte, and certainly slick. But the iPhone 4 didn't impress me quite as much as I expected, and this phone is more of an incremental upgrade from the iPhone 3GS rather than a must-have device.</p> <p>I loved its Retina display and the new, trim design. So what was lacking? Call quality, for one.</p> <p>To find out more, read my <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/fr/apple-iphone-4-review.htm">full review of Apple's iPhone 4</a>.</p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/29/iphone-4-review-slick-design-so-so-call-quality.htm">iPhone 4 Review: Slick Design, So-So Call Quality</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Tuesday, June 29th, 2010 at 16:32:30.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/29/iphone-4-review-slick-design-so-so-call-quality.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/29/iphone-4-review-slick-design-so-so-call-quality.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/29/iphone-4-review-slick-design-so-so-call-quality.htm&#038;zItl=iPhone 4 Review: Slick Design, So-So Call Quality">Email this</a></p>
Apple iPhone 4 Debuts, Antenna Problems Persist?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Apple's iPhone 4 made its debut to <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://ipod.about.com/b/2010/06/24/iphone-4-goes-on-sale-waits-are-long-bugs-appear.htm">long line of shoppers</a> last week. We already knew that the new iPhone was popular, as pre-orders sold out on the first day of availability, but now we're getting an idea of just how many iPhones were sold.</p> <p>Oppenheimer's Yair Reiner <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/06/25/first-day-sales-1-5-million-iphone-4s/">estimates that Apple sold 1.5 million iPhone 4s</a> on launch day alone. That's one and half times as many iPhone as Apple sold over three days in 2009 and 2008.</p> <p>It also seems that many of those buying new iPhone 4 handsets were repeat customers. Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster says that <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/06/25/77-of-iphone-4-sales-were-upgrades/">77 percent of iPhone 4s were sold to upgraders</a> who already owned a previous version of the iPhone.</p> <p>But not everyone was happy with their new purchase, as reports suggest that many iPhone 4 owners experienced problems with cellular reception on the phones. Many people found out that they experienced interference with calls and data service when they <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://technologizer.com/2010/06/25/more-on-the-iphone-antenna-issue/">put their hands on the phone's lower-left corner</a>.</p> <p>Apple specifically designed the iPhone with the antenna built into the steel frame that surrounds the phone, saying it would improve reception. Now the company is telling iPhone 4 owners that they should <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://articles.latimes.com/2010/jun/26/business/la-fi-apple-iphone-20100626">avoid holding the phone</a> by the lower left corner.</p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/28/apple-iphone-4-debuts-antenna-problems-persist.htm">Apple iPhone 4 Debuts, Antenna Problems Persist?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Monday, June 28th, 2010 at 08:11:56.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/28/apple-iphone-4-debuts-antenna-problems-persist.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/28/apple-iphone-4-debuts-antenna-problems-persist.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/28/apple-iphone-4-debuts-antenna-problems-persist.htm&#038;zItl=Apple iPhone 4 Debuts, Antenna Problems Persist?">Email this</a></p>
Droid X: Motorola and Verizon Make It Official
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/I/F/-/-/droid_x.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Rumors about the Droid X have swirled around the Web for a while, as people wondered what the follow-up to Motorola's <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/motorola_droid_review.htm">popular Droid phone</a> would offer. Now we know. Motorola and Verizon Wireless have taken the wraps off of the Droid X, a smartphone they are calling "a pocket-sized home theater."</p> <p>The The Droid X be available from Verizon Wireless on July 15 for $199.99 when you sign a new two-year service contract. That price is the same as what AT&#038;T is charging for a 16GB iPhone 4 and what Sprint is charging for the HTC EVO 4G.</p> <p>And on paper, at least, the Droid X sure does look like it can compete with those two phones. It boasts a 4.3-inch touch screen, Android 2.1, an 8-megapixel camera, and the on-screen movie playback from Blockbuster. </p> <p>For more information, see <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/motorolacellphonereviews/a/Droid-X-Motorola-Verizon-Android-Phone.htm">Droid X: All the Details</a>.</p> <p><em>Photo © Verizon Wireless</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/24/droid-x-motorola-and-verizon-make-it-official.htm">Droid X: Motorola and Verizon Make It Official</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, June 24th, 2010 at 13:13:54.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/24/droid-x-motorola-and-verizon-make-it-official.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/24/droid-x-motorola-and-verizon-make-it-official.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/24/droid-x-motorola-and-verizon-make-it-official.htm&#038;zItl=Droid X: Motorola and Verizon Make It Official">Email this</a></p>

How to Get iOS 4 on Your iPhone
<p><img src="http://z.about.com/d/smartphones/1/0/Y/-/-/-/iphone3g_blog.JPG" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Apple yesterday released <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/softwarereviews/a/iphone-os-4-update.htm">iOS 4</a>, the renamed and revamped version of its iPhone operating system. If you already own an iPhone, you can download the update to your phone now, using Apple's iTunes software. And you should -- it's a worthy update. </p> <p>Apple's iOS 4 adds several long-awaited features to the iPhone, including multitasking, which lets you run more than one third-party app at a time. You also get a revamped mail client, folders, the iBooks app that has been so popular on the iPad, and more. </p> <p>Note that users of the iPhone 3GS and third-generation iPod Touch will be able to take advantage of all of the new features, while older devices (like the iPhone 3G) will not support all of the features, such as multitasking. </p> <p>To find out how to update your phone, read my step-by-step guide: <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/howtoguides/ss/how_to_update_iphone_software.htm">How to Update Your iPhone's Software</a>.</p> <p><em>Photo copyright Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/22/how-to-get-ios-4-on-your-iphone.htm">How to Get iOS 4 on Your iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010 at 12:22:18.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/22/how-to-get-ios-4-on-your-iphone.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/22/how-to-get-ios-4-on-your-iphone.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/22/how-to-get-ios-4-on-your-iphone.htm&#038;zItl=How to Get iOS 4 on Your iPhone">Email this</a></p>
Study: Adults More Likely to Text While Driving
<p>Think texting while driving is only something an inexperienced teen driver would do? Think again: a new study reveals that adults are just as likely to text while behind the wheel -- and are far more likely to spend time chatting on the phone while driving, too.</p> <p>The study, <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.pewinternet.com/Reports/2010/Cell-Phone-Distractions.aspx">released this week</a> by the Pew Internet &#038; American Life Project, reveals that 27 percent of American adults say they have texted while driving. 26 percent of teens, meanwhile, admit to the same behavior.</p> <p>The study also finds that 61 percent of adults say they have talked on their phones while driving. Just 43 percent of 16- and 17-year old drivers admit to talking on the phone while driving.</p> <p>Many adults admit that using their cell phones has distracted them, even when they're not driving. 17 percent say they have been "so distracted" while holding a conversation or texting that they "have physically bumped into another person or object."</p><p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/19/study-adults-more-likely-to-text-while-driving.htm">Study: Adults More Likely to Text While Driving</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Saturday, June 19th, 2010 at 09:27:17.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/19/study-adults-more-likely-to-text-while-driving.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/19/study-adults-more-likely-to-text-while-driving.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/19/study-adults-more-likely-to-text-while-driving.htm&#038;zItl=Study: Adults More Likely to Text While Driving">Email this</a></p>
Pre-Order an iPhone 4, Get It on July 14?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Was it only yesterday that Apple's Web site was promising delivery of new iPhone 4 handsets <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-orders-all-sold-out.htm">by July 2</a>? Now, that date has been pushed all the way back to July 14, almost three weeks after the phone officially launches on June 24. You can thank overwhelming demand for the new phone (and maybe a few technical glitches on AT&#038;T's part) for the long wait. </p> <p>Apple <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/06/16iphone.html">released a statement</a> on Wednesday, saying: </p> <p>" Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple's new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock." </p> <p>You'll note that this statement does not say when the iPhone 4 will be in stock in stores. It remains unclear as to whether the overwhelming demand for pre-orders means that stores will have any additional iPhone 4s to see on launch day. In past years, Apple and AT&#038;T stores have had phones reserved for customers who placed pre-orders, as well as additional handsets to sell to those waiting in line. </p> <p>And while Apple is still taking <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/15/how-to-pre-order-an-iphone-4.htm">iPhone 4 pre-orders</a>, albeit for delivery much later than many shoppers had anticipated, AT&#038;T has suspended them altogether. AT&#038;T has not said when or if it will resume accepting pre-orders for the phone. </p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/17/pre-order-an-iphone-4-get-it-on-july-14.htm">Pre-Order an iPhone 4, Get It on July 14?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, June 17th, 2010 at 13:06:28.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/17/pre-order-an-iphone-4-get-it-on-july-14.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/17/pre-order-an-iphone-4-get-it-on-july-14.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/17/pre-order-an-iphone-4-get-it-on-july-14.htm&#038;zItl=Pre-Order an iPhone 4, Get It on July 14?">Email this</a></p>
New Motorola Droid Phone Coming Soon
<p><img src="http://z.about.com/d/smartphones/1/0/B/5/-/-/droid_closed.jpg" hspace="5" align="right"></p> <p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/a/apple-iphone-4-overview.htm">Apple's iPhone 4</a> isn't the only new smartphone debuting next week: Motorola and Verizon Wireless plan on unveiling the follow-up to the hugely-popular <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/motorola_droid_review.htm">Motorola Droid</a> (pictured here) one day before the iPhone 4 officially launches. The two companies will unveil the phone at a press event on June 23, at which Adobe will also be in attendance. </p> <p>Details on the new Droid phone aren't clear, though rumors have circulated online about what it might look like and what kind of features it might offer. Gizmodo.com has <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://gizmodo.com/5551789/motorola-droid-shadow-and-xtreme-show-up-on-verizons-system">information on two different phones</a>, the Droid Xtreme and the Droid Shadow, both of which are reportedly coming to Verizon Wireless. The Droid Xtreme is the all touch-screen phone that was <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/05/26/motorola-droid-shadow-prototype-found.htm">found in a Washington, DC gym late last month</a> (and which was, at that time, called the Shadow). The actual Droid Shadow, meanwhile, is closer in form to the original Motorola Droid, with a hardware keyboard. </p> <p>As for why Adobe will be at the phone announcement, it's very likely because the companies want to highlight the availability of <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://webdesign.about.com/od/flash/Macromedia_Flash.htm">Adobe's Flash</a> on the new Droid phone. Apple has famously refused to allow Flash support on its iPhone, while Android has embraced it. The presence of Adobe at the press event also means that the new Droid phone is likely to be running the yet-to-be-released version 2.2 of the Android operating system, as that's required for Flash support. </p> <p>Stay tuned for all the details. </p> <p><i>Image © Motorola</i></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/new-motorola-droid-phone-coming-soon.htm">New Motorola Droid Phone Coming Soon</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 at 12:28:35.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/new-motorola-droid-phone-coming-soon.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/new-motorola-droid-phone-coming-soon.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/new-motorola-droid-phone-coming-soon.htm&#038;zItl=New Motorola Droid Phone Coming Soon">Email this</a></p>
iPhone 4 Pre-Orders All Sold Out?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>I tried ... and tried ... and tried to <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/15/how-to-pre-order-an-iphone-4.htm">pre-order an iPhone 4</a> yesterday. And I all I got for my trouble was stalled Web sites and error messages from both AT&#038;T and Apple's online stores. As it turns out, I wasn't alone: multiple reports this morning say that AT&#038;T and Apple have sold out of the iPhone 4 handsets available for pre-order. And that's despite the massive technology failures that kept many users from placing their orders. </p> <p>The online order systems at AT&#038;T's and Apple's Web sites were slow all day, with many users seeing timed out pages and error messages. By late Tuesday, AT&#038;T's site was saying that iPhone 4 pre-orders were no longer available, while Apple's online store was saying that it was no longer accepting reservations for in-store pickups on launch day, June 24, and that the ship date for new iPhones was now July 2. </p> <p>The long waits and inability to place pre-orders for a new iPhone aren't even the worst of the situation, as multiple reports today say that the private information of some AT&#038;T customers was accidentally leaked to other users. Some AT&#038;T customers who logged into their own accounts in an attempt to upgrade their phones instead saw the account information of another customer. <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://gizmodo.com/5564262/apple-iphone-4-order-security-breach-exposes-private-information">Gizmodo.com says</a> that the leaks were caused by a "fraud update" to AT&#038;T's ordering systems that went wrong. </p> <p>Whatever the cause, it's apparent that many things went wrong with the iPhone 4 pre-order process. As it stands, I don't have a new iPhone 4 reserved for pick-up or delivery on June 24. And I'm not alone. </p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-orders-all-sold-out.htm">iPhone 4 Pre-Orders All Sold Out?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Wednesday, June 16th, 2010 at 12:27:41.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-orders-all-sold-out.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-orders-all-sold-out.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/16/iphone-4-pre-orders-all-sold-out.htm&#038;zItl=iPhone 4 Pre-Orders All Sold Out?">Email this</a></p>
How to Pre-Order an iPhone 4
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>As of today, June 15, Apple and AT&#038;T will begin accepting pre-orders on the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/applecellphonereviews/a/apple-iphone-4-overview.htm">new iPhone 4</a>. The phone will be available on Thursday, June 24, and you can choose to have it delivered to you or reserve a device for pick-up on that day. </p> <p>So, what are your options for pre-ordering an iPhone 4? Right now, you have two solid choices: <a href= http://www.apple.com/iphone/pre-order/">Apple's online store</a> (though it's is down as I write this at 7:45am Eastern time, but is expected to be back up shortly and ready to begin accepting orders) and <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.att.com/">AT&#038;T's online store</a>.</p> <p>But the pre-order process is slightly different at each store. Will T-Mobile Offer the iPhone?
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Rumors have long swirled that Apple's iPhone will be offered by a carrier other than AT&#038;T. And the carrier most often mentioned <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/03/30/iphone-coming-to-verizon-wireless.htm">is Verizon Wireless</a>...until today, when an investment analyst suggested that T-Mobile is likely to be the next carrier to offers Apple's smartphone. </p> <p>Shaw Wu, an analyst with Kaufman Bros., said in a research note to investors that Apple's iPhone could come to networks other than AT&#038;T as soon as this fall. He believes T-Mobile would be the likely choice based on conversations with Apple's suppliers. T-Mobile phones runs on the GSM network, which is the same network AT&#038;T uses, so a T-Mobile iPhone would, theoretically, be easier to build than one that runs on the CDMA networks used by Verizon Wireless and Sprint. </p> <p>T-Mobile declined to comment on the rumors when <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5iIO1c6u7IB2zhYkzFc3S989MuXIQD9G8GHRO0">asked by the Associated Press</a>. But Peter Dobrow, a spokesman for T-Mobile USA did say, "Would we like to offer the iPhone to T-Mobile customers in the U.S.? You bet. Ultimately though it is Apple's decision on who carries its product."</p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/10/will-t-mobile-offer-the-iphone.htm">Will T-Mobile Offer the iPhone?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Thursday, June 10th, 2010 at 13:58:27.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/10/will-t-mobile-offer-the-iphone.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/10/will-t-mobile-offer-the-iphone.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/10/will-t-mobile-offer-the-iphone.htm&#038;zItl=Will T-Mobile Offer the iPhone?">Email this</a></p>
iPhone Owners: How Much Data Do You Actually Use?
<p><img src="http://z.about.com/d/smartphones/1/0/Y/-/-/-/iphone3g_blog.JPG" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>Many AT&#038;T customers -- and potential AT&#038;T customers -- were dismayed last week when the carrier announced the <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/02/att-puts-an-end-to-unlimited-data-plans.htm">end of its unlimited data plans</a>. Most users saw AT&#038;T's move as a way to get more money out of its subscribers, despite the company's claims that its new data plans would actually save most of its customers money. </p> <p>I have to admit, I was uncertain about AT&#038;T's decision. I've been <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/iphone_3G_S_review.htm ">an iPhone user</a> for almost three years, and I have been satisfied with my $30-per-month unlimited data plan. I know I'll never go over my limit, and I know exactly how much my bill will be each month. I rely heavily on my iPhone, using it frequently for checking e-mail, surfing the Web, downloading music and videos from iTunes, checking Facebook, and more. I assumed I was a heavy data user. </p> <p>But then I did a little digging, and I was surprised to see just how little data I actually do use. From January 2010 to June 2010, I used an average of 119MB of data each month. The most I used in any month was 135MB of data. (To check your own data usage, visit <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.att.com/mywireless">att.com/mywireless</a>; AT&#038;T shows you your data usage in an easy-to-read chart.) </p> <p>That means I could be a candidate for AT&#038;T's $15-per-month DataPlus plan, which would save me $15 off my current monthly bill. To be safe, I could opt for the $25-per-month DataPro plan, which would still save me $5 each month. (For more information on the differences between these plans, read my <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/attserviceplans/a/att-data-plans-for-iphone.htm">overview of AT&#038;T's new data plans</a>.)</p> <p>As it stands, AT&#038;T's new plans would actually save me money -- for now. I do expect to use more data on my phone in the future -- especially once I get my hands on a <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/07/apple-unveils-the-iphone-4.htm">new iPhone 4</a> and its Netflix app. </p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/09/iphone-owners-how-much-data-do-you-actually-use.htm">iPhone Owners: How Much Data Do You Actually Use?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 at 11:04:27.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/09/iphone-owners-how-much-data-do-you-actually-use.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/09/iphone-owners-how-much-data-do-you-actually-use.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/09/iphone-owners-how-much-data-do-you-actually-use.htm&#038;zItl=iPhone Owners: How Much Data Do You Actually Use?">Email this</a></p>
AT&T Offers Early Upgrades on the iPhone 4
<p><img src="http://0.tqn.com/d/cellphones/1/0/B/F/-/-/iphone4.jpg" alt="" hspace="5" align="right" /></p> <p>If you're a current AT&#038;T iPhone user just dying to get your hands on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/07/apple-unveils-the-iphone-4.htm">the iPhone 4</a> in a few weeks time, you may be paying less for the phone than you thought. AT&#038;T is extending the iPhone 4 upgrade pricing to current iPhone users who normally wouldn't qualify for the discounted price until later in the year. </p> <p>AT&#038;T will begin selling the iPhone 4 on June 24, and will start taking pre-orders for the device on June 15. The 16GB iPhone 4 will cost $199 for new customers and those eligible for the upgrade pricing, while the 32GB iPhone 4 will cost those same customers $299. Those prices require a two-year service commitment. </p> <p>If you're a current AT&#038;T customer who is not eligible for the discount, the price goes up: the 16GB iPhone 4 will cost "early upgraders" $399 and the 32GB version will cost $499. Those prices, too, require that you extend your contract for two more years. </p> <p>Typically, AT&#038;T customers are eligible for a discounted upgraded pricing anywhere from 12 to 18 months into their contracts, but some are not eligible until later in their contracts. That could mean that many customers who purchased <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/od/phonereviews/fr/iphone_3G_S_review.htm">the iPhone 3GS</a> in June 2009 wouldn't be eligible for the cheapest price on the new iPhone 4, and would have to pay the "early upgrade" price instead. AT&#038;T, however, is stepping in to help these customers out. </p> <p>"To let current iPhone customers quickly upgrade to iPhone 4, AT&#038;T will make its best pricing immediately available to any iPhone customer who would be upgrade eligible for a discounted device by the end of 2010," AT&#038;T <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/att-to-offer-iphone-4-on-june-24-95795419.html">said in a statement</a> released after Apple's WWDC announcement of the iPhone 4. </p> <p>To find out if you are eligible for an upgrade, you can visit <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://www.att.com/mywireless">att.com/mywireless</a> or dial *639# from your current iPhone. </p> <p><em>Photo © Apple</em></p> <p style="background:#f5f3ef;border:1px solid #d5d0bf;clear:both;padding:.5em;"><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/08/att-offers-early-upgrades-on-the-iphone-4.htm">AT&T Offers Early Upgrades on the iPhone 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/">About.com Cell Phones</a> on Tuesday, June 8th, 2010 at 16:04:24.</p><p><a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/08/att-offers-early-upgrades-on-the-iphone-4.htm">Permalink</a> | <a href="http://clk.about.com/?zi=1/1hc&#038;zu=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/08/att-offers-early-upgrades-on-the-iphone-4.htm#gB3">Comment</a> | <a href="http://cellphones.about.com/gi/pages/shareurl.htm?PG=http://cellphones.about.com/b/2010/06/08/att-offers-early-upgrades-on-the-iphone-4.htm&#038;zItl=AT&T Offers Early Upgrades on the iPhone 4">Email this</a></p>
